As Americans Hold Their Breath And Wait For The Train Wreck

After reading Melissa Clouthier’s piece at AIG, I’m reminded of the scene in the film “Pretty Woman” when Julia Roberts, hoping to purchase a cocktail dress, gets snubbed by a group of snooty saleswomen, and later gets her revenge when she returns to the store, laden with shopping bags, and utters her famous line, “You guys work on commission, right? Big mistake! Big! Huge! I have to go shopping now!” The words can be perfectly applied to Melissa’s description of how many Americans are beginning to feel about having put the government into the hands of Democrats in the House, the Senate and the Executive Branch. It has been a Big mistake! Big! Huge!
[...] After their years of bitching, and crying out about government waste, irresponsibility, wars, etc., the American people gave the Democrats a chance to govern. President Obama promised to cut waste. He promised to a new era of responsibility. He promised transparency. President Obama promised change. Well, the change that is here is not exactly change for the better. The change seems to be more of the past, but much worse. The government is spending more, has less to show for it, is as opaque as ever, has taken over major businesses, banks are still failing, the unemployment rate is scarily high, wars still rage, realities like Gitmo still exist, state governments are issuing IOUs, and now, the government that has messed up the housing, banking and other industries now wants to control health care and energy. The public wants none of this. The American citizen sees and stands helpless and waits for the inevitable.
The fact is, the Democrats control both houses and the presidency, and they can, as Chris Matthews so eloquently stated, “ram through health care”. In fact, the one-party government can do pretty much anything it wants. The voter must wait two years, at least, to stem the tide of this madness. Rather than face voters, many Representatives hide. They’ll do what they want anyway.
Is it any wonder why Americans are freaked out? It’s like watching a horror movie. Everyone knows the ending but the ones in the script.
[...] Americans made a mistake. They took a wrong turn. They voted left, because they forgot the right turn was safer. And, in fact, trying to find the “right” way, was nearly impossible as few offered a good, safe alternative. Will Americans end without their capitalistic, free-market, freedom-loving lives?

In 2010 and 2012 will the voters be telling the politicians in Washington: “You guys ignored us yet want our vote, right? Big mistake! Big! Huge! We’ll be voting you out now!”? If we still have the right to vote freely then, It’s looking more and more likely that they will.
